Not sure where to start when choosing a day-of hairstyle? Try using your face shape as a jumping-off point! Whether you’re round, oval, square, or heart-shaped, there’s a perfect updo and down ‘do for you. Here, celebrity hairstylist Mara Roszak gives her (very DIY-friendly, very chic, sure-to-flatter) recommendations.
Round
Down 'do: A smooth, center-parted blowout with soft curls at the ends will elongate the face, Roszak says. To get the look, apply a styling cream to damp hair and dry with a round brush. Then, use a curling iron with a one-and-a-half inch barrel to round off the ends. Finish by teasing the crown to add height — it’s another sneaky elongating trick.

Updo: A half-up, half-down hairstyle keeps hair out of your eyes and slims the face. Create a center part, blow-dry hair, then curl the ends with a one-and-a-half inch barrel. Create two skinny braids on either side of your head and secure them with bobby pins, mid-height, at the back of your head. Finish by teasing the crown.
